Irish International

Matt is an Irish international and Bedford & County AC athlete. His primary event is the 5000m with an impressively fast PB of 13:54:31, making him one of the quickest men in Ireland over that distance.

From a very early age it was clear Matt was destined for great things when he became English Schools 3000m champion, back in 2011. A year later in 2012 he became the U20 3000m National Champion at the Birmingham Diamond league.

Fast forward to 2014 where Matt received a track & field scholarship to further his studies and compete at The University of New Mexico. Here he was invited to race in the prestigious Payton Jordan Invitational running his PB in the 5000m. In his final year in New Mexico Matt finished 3rd in the Morton Games 3000m.

In 2017 Matt had his first taste of running in a world championship, at the world university games in Taipei, finishing 10th in the 5000m. But earlier that year was when he earned his first international vest running in the Armagh International Road Race coming 11th, and 12th the following year in 2018.

Outside of running Matt is a qualified physiotherapist, graduating from Brunel University in 2014. Most recently he started working at the Witty, Pask & Buckingham clinic under the guidance of international renowned physiotherapist Mark Buckingham. As we move into the 2018 track season Matt has some set himself some big goals that we are going to help him achieve, watch this space!
